Camp 1st maine Cav ?eltrick Va. July 19th 1865 Mother It has been a long time since I have written or received a letter from you but I have been so busy I have hardley had time to write to Lucy. I have a few moments to spare now and will try and write you a few lines. We received an order yesterday for the muster out of the Regt but are waiting for blanks to make out the Muster-Out Rolls. I suppose we shall get them in a day or two and I think it will take about two weeks to get the papers made out. Some set it at three and even four weeks but I don't think it will be over three at the most. I suppose you thought the 1st Maine had gone home but there is more to go this time than went before and besides we have to get the band, colors, two Generals, and any quantity of other Officers with us and shall be the 1st Maine Cav. after all for we shall be the last in the field.
