Charles H. Whitehouse was a 21-year-old resident of Vassalboro when he enlisted in Company C of the 1st Maine in October 1861.
A dutiful soldier he reenlisted in December 1863 and served till the regiment was mustered out in 1865.
He was photographed in a low-collar mounted service jacket by B. W. Hinds of North Vassalboro.
